‘We are all born beautiful.. the greatest tragedy is being convinced we are not.’
First of all, what does ‘beauty’ mean to you?
I am sure that if you truly think about it.. you will realize that many of your standards of beauty were defined by what you were told is beautiful. Or what society told you is beautiful.
And is it beautiful to define beauty that way? Of course not. Who should decide what is beautiful to you, apart from you?
Because most of the time when someone is described as beautiful.. people refer only to physical beauty.
But true beauty comes from within and never fades away.. unlike physical beauty.
Otherwise we would not have various beauty contests, among them even ‘the most beautiful woman or man in the world’.
But then we would celebrate beauty from within as much as beauty on the outside. We would have beauty contests based on what people carry within themselves.. and I’m not sure if it would be beautiful.
And then comparison starts.
You start noticing the differences between yourself and others and secretly, or not so secretly, you begin wanting that feeling of being ‘the most beautiful person’. You want all that admiration, to feel desired.. and slowly you start neglecting yourself, your beauty, wishing to be like someone else.
Then you find yourself envious, longing for something you do not have and wanting to be or look like someone else.
Or sometimes all it takes is looking at instagram and all ‘those beautiful people’ to fall into melancholy or depression.
Stop comparing yourself to others. By any means.
Nonetheless, we are constantly bombarded with advertisements telling us we should age without wrinkles. Aging naturally is almost treated like a failure.
You are reaching 70 but you should look like you are 30.
It mainly refers to women, because gray hair and wrinkles are somehow ‘allowed’ for men. Somehow they even make them seem sexier.
The pressure women feel because of this is enormous. And so is the judgment women constantly experience.
And to make it even more ironic.. women are often the ones who judge other women the most.
And then plastic surgeons rub their hands with happiness.. and beauty clinics turn all those insecurities into business.
They point out what you should fix, improve.. to make you look more beautiful, younger.
Ok, but i’ll ask you: should you? And more beautiful to whom?
And then we see masses of people beautifying themselves externally while rejecting their essence and forgetting to work on themselves internally.
Beautiful on the outside, empty within.
Everything is viewed through physical beauty and every insecurity is turned into business.
Even if you do not see a weakness or ‘defect’ of yours.. someone else will. They will draw your attention to it and suddenly you begin seeing it too.
Why did it suddenly become a weakness or a defect.. if in reality it is not?
Essentially, people just want to feel accepted and loved.
However, beautifying the outside or trying to be or look like someone else is not the right way to achieve that. Or maybe it is for you?
And there is nothing wrong with wanting to maintain your beauty and feel or look more beautiful.
So whatever treatment or procedure you choose.. make sure it is for the right reason. You should know why you are doing it.
To be beautiful means to be yourself.
We are all unique. And your uniqueness is your beauty.
So.. accept yourself. That is the point.
You do not need to be accepted by others. But you must be accepted by yourself.
Then you will attract people who will love you for who you are and not for your external facade.
Do not try to be like others. Why would you want that?
You reject yourself and discard your own beauty just to become someone else’s beauty.. Do you understand how wrong that is?
You can be beautiful and appreciate the beauty of others.. but without the need to compare yourself to them or wanting to be like them.
If you are a rose.. why would you want to be an orchid?
Nurture your rose down to the roots.
This isn’t the only text. But today, it might be enough.
