‘When we adapt to something, it’s always important to ask ourselves the right questions, as in everything else, in any sphere of life.

What am I adapting to?

Why?

Is this the right thing I am doing?

Does it serve me/us in the long term?

Do I create healthy relationships with colleagues, business partners, love partner?

It will happen, we are going to make a mistake. And then holding ourselves accountable comes into force.’

Adaptability, accountability – Hold yourself accountable. These two important skills are very important in life, and thus occupy a very important place in the world of business.

Without them, it is difficult for us to progress, learn, change and set an example for others. Leadership is not the same as being a boss, a director. Real leaders set a personal example for their followers and take care of them.

That is why these skills occupy a very important place when it comes to leadership.

Of course, not only these two, but adaptation and holding ourselves accountable after making mistakes are crucial.

Why?

Adaptation is the ability that allows us to adapt to changes, while holding ourselves accountable after, say, a mistake has been made, gives us the opportunity to learn from it and therefore make different decisions tomorrow.

Without adaptation, it is difficult to be able to move towards a certain goal.. and the path to success (=the given goal) will be difficult to reach if we do not understand that mistakes are an integral part of the path to success.

Adaptability, accountability - Hold yourself accountable

To be clear, mistakes and choices are not the same thing. Mistakes happen out of ignorance, lack of information, etc. and you learn from them, because a mistake can only happen once. Which leads me to the next point, that if we don’t learn from the mistake.. and repeat the same thing, it’s no longer a mistake, it’s our choice.

That’s why it’s important to stop, hold ourselves accountable and ask ourselves: what should I learn from this? Do I need to change something?

Also, don’t confuse holding accountability with responsibility. They are apparently similar, but with subtle difference.

The next important thing that we must use when it comes to adaptation is common sense. Common sense is very important in a toxic culture because it helps us to ask ourselves: what are we adapting to? Why? Does it serve us?

Common sense is crucial because it helps us change toxic culture. NO, we cannot prevent others from doing so, but we can prevent ourselves from falling into toxic relationships, environments, jobs.

That’s leadership. Change yourself and in that way set an example for others. Do not expect others to change.

We are all aware (hopefully) that we live in a very fast world where everyone competes, compares and looks like a rat race. And we’re not rats, are we?

There is no need for races, comparisons in any sense, because there is room for everyone.

Adapting to something that is not healthy.. simply, it is not healthy and we should not adapt to it. Not even at the price of money, or instant success.

Because everything that is not healthy has no value and shouldn’t be a part of our lives, whether we talk about business or personal life. And health is the most important.

That’s why when we adapt to something, it’s always important to ask ourselves the right questions, as in everything else, in any sphere of life.

In these situations, the ego must be controlled.

Irina

So, let me introduce myself. My name is Irina Vujaklija and I was born in Belgrade on 31 January 1979. Who am I? Love. I know, you will roll your eyes.. But that is how it is. Discovering my true self wasn’t an easy process. Constantly working on myself, learning by seeking answers to many questions, I have managed to overcome very complicated life situations. Among other things, my severe motorcycle accident in 2004. A life altering moment in just one second.
