You are not a burden..

‘You are not a burden:

– For having needs

– For feeling lost

– For feeling deeply

– For asking for help

– When you need support

– Because you struggle with your mental health

– Because you live with a chronic illness

– When taking care of yourself feels too difficult

– Because life wounded you.’

This is a gentle reminder for all of us. Because we all carry wounds and we all need love, healing and support. And also a reminder to reflect on how we treat and care for others.

If you ever think that you are a burden to others, or that you are somehow unworthy of love, simply because you are going through a difficult period in your life.. please do not believe everything you think. Change that belief.. it is not serving you.

You are not a burden for experiencing what you are experiencing. And none of that makes you less deserving of love. In fact.. those are often the moments when you need love the most.

Needing and wanting care, patience and emotional safety during difficult moments does not make you a burden. It makes you a vulnerable human being who needs healing.. not deeper wounds. You are not supposed to carry all that weight alone. You were never meant to.

You think that way because of certain beliefs you were taught and because of your life experiences. And because of how people treated you during moments when you needed emotional support.

So perhaps only this part is true: You will probably meet people who see you or make you feel like you are an obligation or a burden. Those whose ‘love’ feels heavy and exhausting on your soul, and only deepening your pain even more. Those are not the people you should keep close to you.

Do not measure your worth or your needs through the way they see you. Do not see yourself through their eyes.

The reality is that all of us need help, support or encouragement sometimes. So making someone feel like a burden when they genuinely need love and support is.. a complete lack of understanding, emotional support, compassion and empathy.

And.. if someone feels like a burden or an obligation to you, during moments when they genuinely need help and support.. then kindly step away from their life.

Because..

you know what it feels like to be helpless, desperate or plunged into darkness, so why would you add misery and even more pain to their suffering? Especially when you already know exactly how it feels.

Helping should come naturally, sincerely and from the heart. Kindly. With compassion, patience and love. Not in the form of ‘must’, not out of obligation or with condescending pity like ‘you poor thing’ or helping only because you expect something in return. That is not what real, genuine help looks like.

Help when you genuinely can and when it comes from the heart. And choose people who give you emotional and mental support.

And of course.. know and never forget your boundaries. Learn to recognize those who only want someone to feel sorry for them. Or emotional leeches who constantly complain and who drain others emotionally instead of working on healing themselves.

We are supposed to lift each other up, not destroy one another.

Do not put people down or make them feel awkward, ashamed, strange or — God forbid — like a burden when they need support and love the most.

Mental and emotional health are essential for overall well-being. Be gentle. We never truly know what someone is carrying inside.

This isn’t the only text. But today, it might be enough.
