It is not your job to raise your partner

‘Women, you are NOT rehabilitation centers for badly raised men. It is NOT your job to fix him, change him, parent him or raise him. You want a partner, not a project.’

And before you say otherwise.. this applies equally to women and men.

You need a partner with whom you can grow and evolve, not someone you have to teach responsibility, respect, basic human decency and healthy behavior. You are not there to heal the consequences of an unhealthy upbringing. That should not be your role in the relationship.

Yet many people still believe that loving someone enough will eventually change them. The truth is.. you can love someone deeply, but people change when they decide to change. Not when you want them to. That’s why knowing your boundaries is so important.

Many still carry the story in their head that their love will change their partner.. and then they suffer, wait for changes and convince themselves that this is how love should be. As if suffering because someone refuses to grow were proof of love and loyalty. Of course, the expected change rarely happens. They end up exhausted and slowly turn their lives into misery.

Taking on the burden of someone else’s immaturity or emotional baggage often leads to resentment and emotional burnout. And no, that’s not loyalty. Emotional labor should never be disguised as loyalty.

Don’t build your relationship around an illusion. Look at reality. And know your boundaries.

Look, relationships will not always be easy.. but the reason for that should not be someone’s immaturity, lack of responsibility, poor communication or absence of basic respect and behavior. Life is already challenging enough. A relationship should not feel like another problem to solve. Love should bring support, not additional suffering.

The basics of behavior and responsibility are things each of us needs to learn from childhood. Even if our parents did not teach us those things, it eventually becomes our responsibility to learn them ourselves. Because your role in a relationship is not to be a parent or a child, but a partner.

So choose your partner carefully. And choose yourself just as carefully. And pay even closer attention to yourself and your own behavior.

It is very important to understand this: many unhappy parents raise unhappy children. Many dissatisfied parents transfer their frustrations and dissatisfaction onto their children. Many try to fulfill themselves through their children, imposing their own wishes instead of allowing their children to follow their own desires and talents. Many do not give children love, attention and time.. but instead give them criticism, aggression, neglect or violence.

Some parents are their children’s first bullies. They bully their children because they themselves were bullied, often without being fully aware of what they are doing. They accepted it as something normal and continued the cycle.

And then that child often becomes the same.

Someone has to break that cycle. Let it be you.

Overprotective parenting can affect a child’s development, regardless of whether it comes from the mother or the father.

However, excessive attachment is often created by overprotective mothers toward their sons, preventing emotional maturity and independence.

To women: when you meet someone, pay attention to his relationship with his parents, especially with his mother.

Because it can become an impossible mission to explain to him that you are not his mother, nor do you want to be. You need a partner, not a child. You should be his woman, not his therapist. It is his responsibility to establish healthy boundaries, not allow others to interfere in your relationship and behave responsibly toward both you and the relationship. And vice versa.

We all carry wounds and experiences that affect us in one way or another. Many people are not fully aware of them. And because they are unaware, they do not heal them. Instead, they pass them on to their partners.

Understand that it is not your job to raise your partner. Your responsibility is to raise your own children — if you have them — so that they become responsible for their own lives and actions.

When looking for a partner, look for your equal, not your project.

Just because you can carry something doesn’t mean you should.

Everyone’s responsibility is to become aware of their wounds, their trauma and their past, and actively work on healing instead of transferring those burdens onto their partner. This is only possible when a person is open to self-reflection and aware of their own actions. Otherwise, it can become incredibly draining for the other person.

Be careful when deciding where patience is needed and where your time is simply being wasted. Only you can feel the difference and make that decision.

A healthy relationship relies on two emotionally mature adults. If a relationship constantly brings chaos or requires you to mold someone into a grown adult, it is not your responsibility to solve those problems.

Stop looking for someone to save. Start looking for someone who can walk beside you. Because you are not a rehabilitation center. You are a human being who deserves love, respect and partnership.

This isn’t the only text. But today, it might be enough.
