When your past calls, don’t answer; it has nothing new to say

‘When your past calls, don’t answer; it has nothing new to say.’

Are you living in the past?

How are you supposed to know that? Simply. Watch your thoughts.

Do you regret something? If there is something you regret, face it now. Change it if you can. If you can’t, accept it.

Because your past belongs to the past. The point is to face all things as they come, so that your present becomes easier, and then also your future.. which doesn’t actually exist as a time or place where you can live now. Nor does the past.

Don’t live in either. Why would you live in either of these two, missing the now?

Unresolved things from the past are like a burden and often create sadness, while living with your thoughts in the future usually creates anxiety.

If you live anywhere but in the now, you are missing the present moment.

Your life.

If someone from the past calls you, for example, your ex, longing for another chance, before you answer and say ‘yes’, ask yourself:

Why are they in your past?

Why do they want to come back?

And most importantly.. what is it that YOU want?

If your answer is them.. ask yourself why.

Then remind yourself why they became your ex in the first place.

That is why it is very important that you learn all your lessons from the past, because they are there for a reason. And of course, apply them now if you want a different future. Because the past has nothing new to say. You are the one who should create something new. Now.

The lesson belongs in the present.

Not the burden.

And the past will keep repeating itself through regrets, suffering and unlearned lessons until you finally understand it. All of these create a burden that you carry with you in the now. And there you go.. You create the same future.

Learn from your past.. and leave your past in the past. That’s why it’s called the past. I know, I know.. How intelligent. Mind-blowing.

But very true.. because..

Sometimes you don’t even realize the weight of something you’ve been carrying for such a long time. Whether it’s unresolved relationships, unspoken emotions, anger or whatever it might be.. You bring it into the present and end up creating the same future, full of burden.

Awareness is required.

First and foremost.. Sit down. Take a deep breath. Think about or write down the things that lie on your heart and weigh you down.

Come to terms with the things you cannot change by accepting them. And change the things you can by facing them. No matter how difficult they are, it is necessary.

Whether it is apologizing to someone, expressing your emotions, putting an end to a relationship or something else entirely.. Face whatever steals your peace and keeps you living in the past.

Make peace with yourself. You did the best you could THEN. And you’re no longer that person. So let go of anything that no longer serves you.

All of this takes time and will be a process. Don’t expect magical changes overnight. The point is that you strive to free yourself from your burden and from the cage you put yourself in.. so you can have your peace and live an easier life.

Because once you let go of everything that feels like a burden, you will feel as if you have removed your shackles. You will gain freedom. You will feel better. And you will no longer feel that elephant sitting on your back or pressing on your chest.

And if you still want to answer that call.. Ask yourself why. Why, if it didn’t bring you anything good?

Maybe you should leave your voicemail on.

Whatever.

Just don’t pick it up unless you are at peace with the past and know what YOU want.

Not what they want.. but what YOU want.

This isn’t the only text. But today, it might be enough.
